Canadahonker,
Chemo is such an understated double-edged sword! We have to fight to protect our major organs, such as kidney, liver, lungs, brain. I’m rooting for you and sending mega virtual strength. Big Hugs, Kaye🥰

Hello Canadahonker,,
Thought I would say hello and see how you are doing. Appreciate you sharing about your experience with Elahere. It has been some time since i posted here. You sure have battled with OC a long time. You deserve lots of hugs, rest, and comfort.

My ca125 number fluctuated on elahere. Had to stop the treatments after a year as i developed pnuemonitis and was hospitalized for eight days . It also caused me to have to have thoracentesis and paracentesis every two weeks . After stopping elahere as dr said i was too weak , i am now on
Hospice and have improved some. I did have thinning of hair with elahere.
My journey with ovarian cancer stage 3c started in 2012.

Hi Dear Lisa,
I was also interested in your question so I looked it up using AI:

Yes, Elahere can absolutely still work for you despite this rise. It is not uncommon to see a sharp, early spike in CA-125—such as your jump from 928 to 1390—after the first cycle of a new treatment.
This initial surge is frequently referred to as a "tumor flare" or a transient treatment-related spike.

When a targeted therapy like Elahere (mirvetuximab soravtansine) enters the body, it aggressively binds to and breaks down cancer cells.
As large numbers of these cells rupture and die, they dump their proteins—including CA-125—directly into your bloodstream all at once.

This can cause your blood test numbers to shoot upward temporarily, even though the medication is actually doing its job. Other benign issues, such as localized inflammation or a mild infection, can also trigger a temporary rise.

Lisa, This is the first time I’ve heard the term “tumor flare” but it does make sense.
It’s Friday, TGIF. Sending you a big virtual hug 🥰 Kaye

Thank you for thinking of me. Forgot to mention that elahere caused cataracts to worsen so vision is very poor. Cant have surgery as kidney function is very poor. Dr wanted me to consider dialysis but i refused. My kidney function has improved a bit now that i am
Not getting elahere.
