Has anyone experienced ovarian cancer spreading to the bones?
While it's extremely rare for ovarian cancer to spread to bone, it can happen. When it does spread to bones like the pelvis or hip, pain is one of the most commonly reported symptoms.
Most commonly, ovarian cancer spreads to:
- The liver
- Lungs
- Intestines
- Omentum (lining of the abdomen)
- Distant lymph nodes
Bone metastasis is considered much less common than these other sites. The cancer tends to stay within the peritoneal cavity and abdomen before spreading to more distant locations.
If you're experiencing bone pain, it's important to discuss this with your healthcare team. They can help determine the cause and provide appropriate monitoring or treatment. Pain can also be a side effect of treatment rather than cancer spread - for example, some cancer drugs can lead to osteoporosis or bone weakness.
A MyOvarianCancerTeam member shared: "I have osteoporosis from my cancer drugs, so I'll have to have an IV once a year for 30 minutes to help with my bones."
