My wife's first test results, when she was diagnosed with stage 3 serous 'advanced' cancer, put her CA125 value over 7000. After one round of chemo, that dropped to 4000, a significant drop but still very high. Does this mean her cancer is still aggressive and the chemo isn't working well?
Dear Herotherhalf , It's hard I know, for you to not be able to fix this . But please know you being present and staying involved is the very best thing, this is happening to you too ,you are in this together. Please give yourself Grace and tell her often she needs to be proud of her strength and to give herself Grace. It is a journey no one expects , there are highs and lows, Frontline is tough on the body ,but it can kick the beasts ass and get her to NED (no evidence of disease) That is truly a celebration!! Stay positive of course , but know it's ok to cry together, it's scary . There are many stories of women diagnosed late stage who went through what she is and are still here today. I'm going on 5 yrs . Many prayers going up for you both 🙏 Good vibes going out! I'm so glad she has you . Big Teal Love and Hugs 💙 🫂
when i was first diagnosed, sept 2022 my CA-125 was 5,158. nov 7th right before my first chemo it was 4,712. in march, after 3 chemos and my total hysterectomy in jan, it was 19. the 5 tests since have been between 14-19. i hope this means all my treatments worked. i tried lynparza and rucarib for maintenance but they both made me very sick so i quickly gave them up. my blood tested negative for BRACA but my cancer tumor was BRACA 1 positive.
Thanks Shaz. All the genetic testing has been done. To be honest I can't remember what it told us besides the fact she isn't BRCA positive. They tested both the tumours and her blood, I was surprised to learn. It means her 'maintenance' regime will be Bevacizumab, administered via three-weekly infusions. To be frank, I was surprised that she was negative given the preponderance of cancer in her wider family, but relieved because it should mean our daughter doesn't have that extra risk (though of course the number of cancer cases in my wife's family nevertheless means she has to be vigilant).
On the subject of genetic testing, my wife was asked if she would consent to having the tissue removed during surgery being forwarded, stored and utilised by research teams. Of course she said yes.
Ask her doctor. She should be getting chemo after surgery and CT scan every 3 months.
Thank you ladies. 3rd round comes up in just over a week, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for another good drop.
