Still waiting on final diagnosis and staging but really thinking about how to add natural alternative medicine. I almost feel like side effects of chemo are worse than the cancer but also not finding much on resources to explore this area outside of supplements.

How can someone under 54 with ovarian cancer incorporate both traditional and alternative approaches to treatment?

It's completely understandable to feel concerned about chemotherapy side effects while waiting for your final diagnosis and staging. Many people share these worries, and it's worth knowing that side effect management has come a long way.

Traditional treatments like surgery and chemotherapy remain the most proven approaches for ovarian cancer. However, there are several ways to support your body and manage side effects alongside standard treatment:

Lifestyle and supportive approaches that may help:
- Regular exercise to manage fatigue and improve mood
- Stress management techniques like meditation or relaxation exercises
- Maintaining comfortable temperatures with cooling fans for hot flashes
- Dietary adjustments (avoiding caffeine and spicy foods if experiencing certain symptoms)
- Using vaginal moisturizers if experiencing dryness

Important considerations:
Your cancer care team can offer supportive treatments to help you feel more comfortable during chemotherapy. Be sure to discuss any side effects you experience - they have many options to help manage nausea, fatigue, pain, and other symptoms.

Before adding any supplements or alternative therapies, talk with your oncologist. Some natural products can interfere with chemotherapy effectiveness or cause unexpected interactions.

Palliative care teams can also provide valuable support in managing symptoms and improving quality of life while you're receiving treatment. This doesn't mean stopping treatment - it works alongside it.
